Esophageal cancer is a common malignant tumor of the gastrointestinal tract, and its typical symptoms are progressive dysphagia.

Relevant data show that esophageal cancer is the eighth most common cancer in the world and is the sixth most common cancer, usually diagnosed only in the late stages, so the survival rate after 5 years is only 15% to 25%.

Brushing Teeth And Cancer

Brushing your teeth every day not only prevents gum disease but also reduces the risk of esophageal cancer.

The researchers conducted a 10-year follow-up survey with more than 120,000 healthy people aged 50 to 75 in the United States.

Of these, 106 were the last to have esophageal cancer, including 81 cases of esophageal adenocarcinoma, 25 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Through genetic sequencing surgery, the researchers compared oral bacteria in mouthwash of esophageal cancer patients and participants with healthy conditions. Results showed that four bacteria associated with gum disease were found in the oral cavity of esophageal cancer patients.

In which, one of the oral bacteria called Forsythia bacteria can increase the risk of esophageal cancer by 21%.

The first author of the study, New York University professor Jiyoung Ahn, said: “Esophageal cancer is currently in urgent need of new prevention pathways for risk stratification, prevention, early detection and treatment “.

Researchers emphasize the importance of maintaining oral hygiene. Brushing your teeth twice a day and regularly seeing a dentist can effectively reduce these oral bacteria, not only preventing gum disease but also reducing the risk of esophageal cancer.

Brushing your teeth is your daily work, but if you know this great effect in the process of preventing cancer effectively, you should pay attention to brushing your teeth more regularly and properly.
