Fast foods such as potato chips, pizzas containing high saturated fats… are likely to degrade brain cells, deteriorate your intelligence, and cause “brain damage”
Foods with more salt
A study in 2012 published in the journal Nature Neuroscience found that people who ate a lot of salt and did not do exercise would decline the awareness faster than the normal person.
Some medical researchers of Weill Cornell fed rats with foods containing 8-10 times of salt. As a result, these rats lost the ability to find their way through the maze and have abnormal manifestations.
High sugar foods
A study by the University of California at Los Angeles (ULCA) found that rats eating foods rich in fructose had difficulty in navigating the labyrinth. The rate of memory decline was also higher than those of rats with fructose and omega-3 diets (brain enhancer).
Accordingly, a fructose-rich diet lowers brain cell activity, while omega-3 can help the brain avoid the harmful effects of fructose.
The research published in the journal Stroke (USA) conducted within 10 years, over 4,300 dieters showed that people who have more soft drink are more likely to have strokes and dementia than ordinary people.
Beer, wine and alcoholic beverages
Adults who drink from 14 to 21 units of alcohol tend to decline the hippocampus (the organ that affects long-term memory) compared to ones who drinks less, according to the study published in BMJ.
Children who eat fast food at 3 years of age have lower IQ index than friends who have a healthy diet. In addition, it also affects language ability and brain development.
Foods high in saturated fats
Harvard University’s study published in the journal Annals of Neurology, a diet high in saturated fats may affect brain function.
Specifically, a study conducted on 6,000 women within 4 years showed that women who ate foods rich in saturated fats had lower brain function and memory than those who ate foods rich in monounsaturated fats.
Nutrition experts recommend that healthy diets combined with activities can stimulate new brain cell growth, preventing mental retardation.
– People should adopt a low-calorie diet, rich in antioxidant foods such as green tea, blueberries, butter, olives, yogurt … to help improve cognitive function through the production of new brain cells, fighting degenerative diseases and memory decline. Anthocyanin in blueberries increases the nerve signals in the memory area.
– Limit alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, sugar, salt, etc. to limit brain cell death.
– Get enough sleep, keep spirit relaxed, participate in physical activity to improve health, prevent diseases.
